STERNWHEEL COMMITTEE GEARS UP FOR SECOND ANNUAL 5K RACE

 

MARIETTA, Ohio- The Ohio River Sternwheel Festival will host its second annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival 5K Memorial Run and Walk Saturday, May 28, 2011, at East Muskingum Park in Marietta, Ohio.

 

Registration will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. the day of the race. The starting line will be at the gazebo at East Muskingum Park on Front Street at 8 a.m. The preregistration fee is $12 and must be postmarked by May 20. After May 20, the fee will be $15. Proceeds from the event will help fund this year’s Sternwheel Festival.

 

The course will lead participants from Front Street to the Washington County Fairgrounds, then to the bike path along the Muskingum River and finish before the Putnam Street Bridge. Awards will be given to runners and walkers in various age categories for first, second and third places.

 

According to Evy Bryant, chairperson for the fundraising committee of the Sternwheel Festival, the first annual 5k race held last year was a huge success and brought in more than 200 participants.

 

"Our first annual 5k run and walk turned out extremely well and wouldn’t have been possible without the help from everyone who volunteered and participated and the local businesses that sponsored the event," Bryant said. "We really hope that our second annual 5k turns out just as well, or even better."
